Embodying Compassion | A Post-Election Practice

Mercy, hope, and justice can feel like hollow, distant ideals when we try to pin them on the unpredictable winds of political fortune. The system, after all, wasn’t designed to cover everyone with equal warmth; someone is always left out in the cold. But perhaps an even greater concern is the enmity that often finds a home in our hearts—the divisions that obscure the shared humanity in those around us.

Today, I encourage you to find someone whose political views differ from your own. Seek to understand what matters deeply to them. Let this be a step toward bridging the distance between you.

And remember: the sun rose this morning. You sat tall and proud on your cushion, cultivating bodhicitta—the intention to awaken and embody compassion. Take this practice and extend it into the world. Let your ideals live not as words but as actions.

This morning, I'll be stocking our community pantry. I invite you to join me in taking one small step today to embody the virtues you hold dear. Let’s be the light of compassion this world so deeply needs.
