OUTREACH @ One River Zen
Our commitment to community outreach is an extension of our core Zen practice: being fully present with each moment as it unfolds. This practice manifests as compassion, responding spontaneously to the needs that present themselves within our community.
Through our outreach initiatives we actively engage with the people of Ottawa, IL, and beyond—providing support and resources that nurture both body and mind. These efforts are guided by the understanding that compassion isn't just felt—it's acted upon. By addressing immediate needs and offering a space for physical and spiritual enrichment, we cultivate a nurturing environment that encourages everyone to live fully and openly.
Our outreach activities are more than just programs; they are vital expressions of our Zen practice, creating connections and fostering a spirit of mutual support that extends far beyond our doors. Through these engagements, we hope to inspire and be inspired, continually learning from the community we are so deeply a part of.
Karuna Pantry
The Karuna Pantry is a testament to the spirit of Karuna, or compassion, encouraging a culture of 'take what you need, leave what you can'. Located on the temple grounds, it is a place where generosity meets necessity, managed by our community volunteers.
Bodhi's Nook
One River Zen proudly presents Bodhi's Nook, our little free library dedicated to the entire Ottawa, IL community. Drawing inspiration from Bodhi, the Buddhist concept of awakening, this initiative aims to enrich the local community through the joy of reading and sharing knowledge.
