PRAYER REQUESTS @ One River Zen
At One River Zen, we recognize the power of shared intention and the deep care that arises when we hold one another in the heart of our practice.
Each Saturday morning at 8:00 AM, during our weekly Buddhist service, we offer prayers for those in need—those who are ill, those who have passed, and all who are navigating life’s challenges. These prayers are a simple but profound act of connection, a way for the Sangha to bear witness to joy, sorrow, hope, and healing in community.
You are warmly invited to submit the names of those you wish to be remembered. Whether for yourself or for others, your request will be held with sincerity and compassion, the merits of our service extended in dedication.
GENERAL PRAYERS
Life brings many challenges that are not always easy to name—times of transition, uncertainty, inner struggle, or quiet longing for support. Our General Prayers offer a way to be held in the heart of the community during such times.
When you submit a General Prayer request, your name will be included in our weekly service for two weeks, spoken aloud with care and sincerity. These prayers are a way to honor whatever you are carrying, seen or unseen, offering support through the shared strength of the Sangha.
Whether you're facing a difficult decision, walking through loss, or simply in need of steadiness, you are not alone. Let us hold space for you.
PRAYERS FOR THE SICK
When illness touches our lives—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—it can be a tender and difficult time. At One River Zen, we offer prayers for the sick as a way of extending presence, support, and compassion to those who are suffering.
If you or someone you love is experiencing illness or healing, you may submit a name to be included on our Prayers for the Sick list. Names will be read aloud during our weekly service for two weeks, held in the stillness of zazen and the warmth of collective intention.
This is not just a list—it is a circle of care. May all who are ailing feel held, remembered, and supported on the path of healing.
PRAYERS FOR THE RECENTLY DECEASED
In the Zen tradition, we honor those who have passed by remembering them in our practice for a full year. This is a way of expressing our deep care and continuing connection—a vow that even in death, we are never parted.
When you submit the name of a recently deceased loved one, they will be included in our weekly Buddhist service for one year, their name spoken aloud with reverence and the merits of our service dedicated to them. This is a space for grieving, for remembrance, and for honoring the sacred continuity of life.
We walk this path together, in life and in death. Through prayer, we offer our love, our gratitude, and our wish for peace beyond this shore.
A NOTE ON DĀNA | GENEROSITY
At One River Zen, we offer prayers not as a transaction, but as an expression of our vow to care for one another. We recite these names, hold these concerns, and share this space because that is how we are called—as fellow travelers on the path.
Still, the life of a Zen Center depends on the virtue of dāna—generosity freely offered. If you are able, we humbly invite your support. Your offering helps sustain the temple, nourish the community, and allow this stream of compassion to continue flowing for all who seek it.
Thank you for giving as you are able, and for walking this path with us.
