New Beginnings 2024 Retreat @ One River Zen

New Beginnings 2024 | Weekend Meditation Retreat

Join us for a transformative journey that invites you to embrace the dawn of a new year with mindfulness and purpose. Immerse yourself in a weekend of meditation, self-discovery, and renewal as we navigate the path to fresh beginnings. We’ll spend the weekend cultivating a sense of inner peace, clarity, and resilience, setting the tone for a year filled with positive energy and personal growth.

This retreat is a way of aligning our heart and mind. It is an intensive Zen meditation retreat with a schedule that creates a deep environment for practice. Each day consists of zazen (seated meditation) and kinin (walking meditation), service and chanting (liturgy), personal interviews with the teachers, samu (work practice) and physical practice. We support each other in whole-hearted practice.

We practice in community, living dormitory-style in our beautiful Temple, a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1890, situated on the scenic banks of the Illinois River.

Participants can immerse themselves in nature - taking a walk along the river front or even take a short ride to Starved Rock State Park.

“I had the opportunity to participate in One River Zen meditation retreat.  The historic home was very comfortable and all needs were met. Beautiful area overlooking the Illinois river and walking distance to Allen Park. Meditation, discussions and a chance to learn about yourself while connecting to new friends.
Great experience! “

“My weekend meditation retreat was an experience that I would recommend to everyone that has any level of interest in meditation and the practice of Zen Buddhism.  Sensei Michael and Vanessa provide the perfect experience to escape the haste of life, slow down, and explore your inner self.”
