Opening to The Beyond

As you go about your journey today, notice the reprise of the small self—the discursive mind that’s always busy narrating the events of your life. It’s not always an honest reflection of what’s happening. Often, it tries to shape or manipulate your experience to fit a narrative. So look carefully today at your karmic inheritance in the small self. Notice where the small self is centered, what it’s trying to accomplish, and what story it’s attempting to weave.

Within this observation is a strong kensho—an ability to see through to your true nature, not because the small self is telling the truth, but because in the lies it tells, it reveals the way out. Sometimes, these lies are more important to realization than the truth because they point you away from the trap of the discursive mind and toward embracing what’s always present.

When those thoughts come up today, grab them by the lapel and ask, "Who sent you? What are you trying to do?" In doing so, you hold the key to liberation. Recognize what the small self is trying to create, and when you see through that creation, you’ll find the life you’re truly living.
