CONFRONT YOUR CRITIC
The DNA in each of your cells is a product of millions of years of development. Life is such a miracle! From a biological perspective, we have an intrinsic negative bias hardcoded within us to ensure our survival. We pay more attention to perceived dangers to ensure our survival. We're also more likely to believe the truthfulness of negative sentiments as compared to positive ones. This positive-negative asymmetry gives birth to our notorious inner-critic.
In recognizing this, it is tempting to disregard or suppress the voice of the inner-critic. Even if there was a good way to do this (and there is not) - this would relegate a large part of our experience to the shadows. Things disowned in this way do not go away - they only fester.
Instead, try confronting your inner-critic. Ask what they are really trying to communicate. Inquire as to why they are so adamant about their concern. Lastly, honor their intentions when well-placed, and integrate their wisdom when it presents itself. Respectfully decline the vitriol. Confronting and making peace with our inner-critic can be a positive experience in this way.
