One River Zen has announced its open call for artists and writers to apply for its upcoming Artist-in-Residence Programin Ottawa, Illinois.
The program welcomes creative individuals whose work explores presence, stillness, and transformation — values central to the temple’s practice of Sōtō Zen Buddhism.

“The residency is an invitation to merge art and meditation,” said Sensei Michael Brunner, abbot of One River Zen. “It’s about allowing creativity to flow from the same quiet awareness that underlies all of life.”

Participants selected for residency will work alongside One River Zen’s community, drawing inspiration from daily meditation and Ottawa’s natural beauty along the Illinois River.
The program culminates with an exhibition and reading at the temple’s Prospect Avenue location.
