Waking up can be an all of the sudden experience - when we put aside the discriminating discursive mind and experience one Suchness deeply and fully. Suddenly the trappings of the small self seem so trivial when they are seen from the perspective of interconnectedness, that they are simply forgotten.

This is a deep mystery - not only because of the profoundness of the experience when we recognize the interconnectedness of the myriad ten thousand things and reclaim our original true nature - but when we realize it was always right before us. All the groping and fumbling for a light switch when our eyes were just closed the whole time...
