Winter Light Zazenkai | One-Day Meditation Retreat

December 19-20th, 2025

Join us for a one-day zazenkai—a simple, wholehearted return to stillness and clarity as the year draws to a close. From Friday evening through Saturday afternoon, we’ll settle into shared silence and connection at One River Zen with periods of seated meditation, guided training and reflections, a short service, and a Dharma talk.

As part of this seasonal gathering, we’ll also relax together by the fire and enjoy the warm, peaceful atmosphere of the temple, which has been specially decorated for this time of year! It’s a chance to breathe, to steady yourself, and to feel supported by community.

All are welcome—whether you’re new to meditation or returning to deepen your practice.

Embark on a journey of inner radiance and self-discovery as you engage in silent meditation sessions, contemplative evenings by the fire, insightful Dharma talks, and supportive community. Find solace in the serene beauty of our surroundings and reconnect with your inner self.

“I had the opportunity to participate in One River Zen meditation retreat.  The historic home was very comfortable and all needs were met. Beautiful area overlooking the Illinois river and walking distance to Allen Park. Meditation, discussions and a chance to learn about yourself while connecting to new friends.
Great experience! “

“My weekend meditation retreat was an experience that I would recommend to everyone that has any level of interest in meditation and the practice of Zen Buddhism.  Sensei Michael and Vanessa provide the perfect experience to escape the haste of life, slow down, and explore your inner self.”
