MEETING OUR TRUE SELF -
REFLECTIONS ON THE DHAMMAPADA

We spend much of our lives trying to become someone else. The assumption beneath all this striving is that who we are, right now, is somehow incomplete.

The Dhammapada offers a different possibility.

For more than two thousand years, these simple and profound teachings have invited people to look directly at their own experience. Not to adopt new beliefs. Not to become someone different. But to see clearly what gives rise to suffering, what gives rise to freedom, and what it means to live with wisdom and compassion in the midst of an ordinary human life.

In this four-week series, we will journey through the entirety of the Dhammapada, one of the most beloved collections of the Buddha's teachings. Along the way, we will explore questions that remain as alive today as they were twenty-five centuries ago.

  • What kind of life am I creating?

  • How should I live?

  • Why do I suffer?

  • What does freedom look like?

Together, we will discover that the true self is not something hidden away, waiting to be found. It reveals itself in the very life we are already living, in our joys and sorrows, our relationships, our struggles, and our deepest aspirations.

No prior experience with Buddhism is necessary. Whether you are new to practice or have been walking this path for years, the Dhammapada offers a timeless invitation to meet yourself, and your life, with fresh eyes.

What to Expect:

  • Four weekly sessions — offered both in-person at One River Zen and online
